3D scanning of the Sopot pier
As part of a unique project, we undertook a detailed inventory of one of the most recognisable structures on the Baltic Sea – the Sopot pier. The work included 3D laser scanning and a drone flight, which was used to create an accurate orthophotomap of the entire structure.
Our aim was to map both the upper part of the pier and its lower structures – from the water side – as accurately as possible. The fieldwork was carried out in demanding autumn conditions, which required not only experience but also good organisation – scanning from water level is always a challenge!
The result is high-quality spatial data that will enable further engineering, conservation and documentation work. The digital 3D documentation allows not only ongoing analysis, but also the archiving of the technical condition of this historic structure.
This is another project demonstrating how modern technology – both laser scanners and drones – can support the preservation and maintenance of engineering structures of particular cultural and tourism significance.
